Ellen's Birthday

Ellen is a wonderful and generous friend of mine who is a huge foodie like me!

Although for so long we've lived so far from each other (her being in SoCal), we've gone on lots of food adventures! A recent one was a trip to New York just to eat!

I thought it would be appropriate to paint her and her love for food for her birthday.  It was quite torturous painting this, but it was fun!

This piece is a 4" x 6" watercolor on watercolor paper.

Happy Star Wars Day

May the Fourth be with you!

For Star Wars Day (May 4th), I decided to work on one of the awkward booby painting requests from my charity for Breast Cancer (I owe lots of booby paintings!: Booby Fett!

This one is slightly bigger than my typical booby painting (2" x 3") and I had a lot of fun making it a little more elaborate than other booby paintings.  This is just one of the few Star Wars- themed boobies that was requested :)

This was done using watercolor, including the outlines on watercolor paper.

Farewell Lucasfilm

I knew I wanted to paint this ever since I learned about the Ahsoka's story arc months ago.  For those who seen Star Wars: The Clone Wars over the few seasons, we learn that Ahsoka Tano and Barriss Offee are good friends.  They've had a few adventures together, and work greatly as a team. So for my silly art piece I wanted to create a BFF feel, where they are taking silly photos at a photobooth, portraying their friendship.

I photoshopped my hand to look like its Ahsoka.  The "photo" is a watercolor painting.

However, after the announcement of Star Wars: The Clone Wars ceasing production (after season 5), I no longer wanted this piece to be a silly/funny one, but to be a tribute to the show, and for everyone who has worked on it over the years.  Learning that most of us will be laid off meant we would be leaving our family here at Lucasfilm Animation, was a heartbreak for us all.

I felt the timing was appropriate, and decided to tie in the last story arc about Ahsoka of season 5 to what was going on at Lucasfilm Animation.

*****WARNING: SPOILER ALERT!!!!*****

At the very last episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, we learn that Barriss Offee betrayed the Jedi order after framing Ahsoka for the bombing, which had her kicked out of the Jedi Order.   When the truth is revealed (thanks to Anakin), and the real bad guy is caught, the Jedi Order asks her to come back.  However, said goodbye to her master, and walks off into the sunset.

I created this piece reminding myself and my fellow co-workers to be happy for the time , opportunity and memories at Lucasfilm Animation, and to not be sad that it ended.  Just as Ahsoka and Barriss had their friendship, I'm sure they had fond memories before the betrayal.

I am grateful to have worked with such amazing and talented people at Lucasfilm Animation for the past 5 seasons.   I will miss my family there, and will hold positive memories in my heart as I move forward in my life.

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

This awkward pair of boobies aren't perfect.   Sure one is slightly bigger than the other...and they look kind of uneven where they are placed...but their my boobies and I like them!

Oh look, an under-booby...nah it just fell into the water.  What a boob. ;P
February is National Breast Cancer Awareness month.  As a tribute I figured I'd draw some boobies...3 blue-footed boobies to be exact!  I plan on putting this up for auction to friends, and all proceeds will go towards Breast Cancer. So far this is my 2nd watercolor painting, and it was more difficult, but hey, it means I need more practice! :)

I plan on drawing a series of different kinds of boobies...stay tuned!

Revisiting Watercolor

Watercoloring was one medium I really enjoyed way back in high.  I did a bit of it early in college and just stopped.  So the other day I figured I try it again (about 10 years later)...and even though I feel so rusty, I had a lot of fun!  Thought I do my first try on a tiny Ahsoka Tano drawing :)

From sketch to finish I would say this took about 2 hours.  I need more practice time!
